Alliance’s shareholder, HeidelbergCement (50%), Acquires Italcementi

Alliance’s 50% shareholder, HeidelbergCement, has announced a major acquisition in Italcementi S.p.A (Italcementi) on 28 July 2015. The acquisition of Italcementi is a unique opportunity to accelerate the growth of HeidelbergCement as well as Alliance. The combination with Italcementi will create the global market leader in aggregates, the second largest producer of cement and the global number three in ready-mix concrete.

Italcementi is one of Italy’s 10 largest industrial companies and is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. With an annual production capacity of more than 60 million tons and 46 cement plants, Italcementi is the world’s fifth largest cement producer.  Combining the expertise, know-how and cultures of 22 countries across four continents, the Group reported consolidated revenues of more than 4.1 billion Euro in 2014.

The acquisition will also combine the strong research and development capabilities. Italcementi adds several attractive R&D capabilities in the fields of process and product innovation. In particluar, Italcementi has developed several high-performance and technologically advanced materials for new building models, e.g. innovative biodynamic cement which was used in the concrete in the construction of the Italian pavilion at Expo 2015.

Most important is the synergies created with this acquisition which expands HeidelbergCement’s global footprint and reach into emerging markets. The acquisition enables Alliance to better leverage our extensive resources to drive additional customer value in technological and performance aspects.

Going forward, Alliance continues to broaden its solution offerings by developing new projects to strengthen Alliance’s leading position in the construction materials market in Hong Kong. One of the projects is the construction of full-automation high volume concrete batching plant and large scale aggregate storage facility at Tsing Yi, Hong Kong.
