Alliance Commits to Vision Zero at 2019 Annual HSE Seminar

The Alliance Annual HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) Seminar was held in March 2019 at Business Environment Council, around 80 representatives from all departments joined the event. During the seminar, the company signed up to the Vision Zero and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) Pledges to confirm its commitment to improving safety, health and wellbeing at work.

Every year, the HSE Seminar reviews the company’s annual performance of health and safety, as well as environmental initiatives. Two encouraging “Zero” scores was announced, namely 0 Fatalities since the establishment of the company and 0 Lost-time-injury (LTI) of direct employees this year. After sharing the major accidents and injury cases in the past year, all participants had a group discussion to generate new ideas and improvement strategies to further upgrade the company’s HSE management. The discussion was a great chance for everyone to have a reflection on their roles, responsibilities and what they can contribute to achieving the HSE goals. To recognize the employees’ outstanding performance in HSE, “Best Housekeeping Award”, “Best “HSE Performance Award” and other individual awards were also presented at the seminar.

Signing up to the Vision Zero and WASH Pledges was the highlight of the seminar. The Vision Zero Campaign developed by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) aims to energize companies and organizations worldwide to strive towards a world of work without accidents and illness. The roadmap towards Vision Zero is formed by "Seven Golden Rules" based on successful, practical management concepts. The WASH Pledge initiated by World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) focuses on the provision of and access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene to employees at the workplace. Both Pledges match Alliance’s core values of striving for HSE excellence and caring for employees, community and environment.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Vincent Yu, CEO of Alliance, said, “This year we marched into our 15th HSE seminar. We remind you the importance of HSE every year, as it is the fundamental of our business. At Alliance, we believe that all accidents are preventable if everyone has stayed alert and taken preventive actions. We hope that everyone can get home safely, every day. Achieving zero accident is more than a slogan, we must first have a good attitude and practice in many different ways, such as applying the "Seven Golden Rules" from Vision Zero. Both the management and employees need to take their roles seriously. The management is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment, providing training, assessing risks and taking preventive or improvement measures. As an employee, you need to comply with all safety rules, actively participate in training, promptly report potential hazards and make recommendations. Together, we can make Vision Zero a reality.”
