Alliance Commits to Setting Science-based Targets to Support Climate Protection
Alliance today announced its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (“SBTi”) as a key step to achieve the Company’s climate protection ambition. By signing the pledge, the Company commits to combating climate change by setting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets to support the Paris Agreement of holding the global average temperature rise to well below 2ºC above pre-industrial levels. This will also help to halve the global emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero before 2050.
Alliance is committed to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 30% by 2030 from a 2018 base-year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. The emissions cover the direct fuel consumption of delivery truck fleet, other vehicles and mobile plants, as well as the electricity consumption of all its worksites. This near-term target has been validated by the SBTi.
Mr. Vincent Yu, CEO of Alliance said, “Building and construction are the major contributors of global GHG emissions. As the construction materials producer, we can play a vital role in shaping a sustainable future by reducing our carbon emissions and providing support to our customer’s sustainability goals.”
“We have to challenge our status quo and make positive changes for the benefit of humankind and the planet.. As the market leader, we are keen to make ambitious move to set science-based goals and create a detailed road map for our actions.” Mr. Yu added.
With a strong commitment to sustainability, Alliance has developed its carbon reduction roadmap in “Alliance Sustainability Ambitions 2030” in 2018.
