Alliance Introduces the First Electric Mixer Truck in Hong Kong to Promote Green Transport

Alliance Construction Materials Limited (“Alliance”) proudly announce today that the Company introduced the first electric mixer truck (E-truck) in Hong Kong. Alliance has partnered with SANY Hong Kong Group Limited (SANY) to start the trial of using new energy mixer truck for concrete delivery and evaluate its performance, adaptation and challenges in the local construction industry.  The trial will provide the industries with useful information for the transition of new energy transportation in future.

E-truck and other Electric vehicles (EVs) have no tailpipe emissions, promoting the use of these new energy vehicles is a vital measure to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, the Hong Kong Government’s launched the Climate Action Plan 2050, of which “green transport” is a major strategic measure. Alliance is eager to support the government’s decarbonisation goal and accelerate climate change actions by different means.

Before scaling up the E-truck usage in its operation, Alliance has sought SANY’s support to initiate a one-year trial to test and identify the key challenges of the E-truck in the Hong Kong construction market. Key focus areas include the horsepower, adaptation to local construction sites and operation in special site environment, questions the industries may have on the battery charging related issues, and cost saving opportunities. Led by Dr. Kenneth Leung, Principle Assistant Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Air Policy), representatives of the Environment & Ecology Bureau (EEB) visited Alliance’s STW2 Plant on 14th February to give advice on the test method and critical performance indicators of the new E-truck. Suggestions from the EEB will definitely help enhance the testing efficiency and step up the trial process.

Mr. Vincent Yu, CEO of Alliance said, “Introducing the first E-truck in Hong Kong represents a promising step toward our green logistics goal. In response to global climate change, electrification of transportation system has become a global trend. We are keen to make any evolutionary move to contribute to the green logistics transformation of the construction industry. This new E-truck trial project will play an important role in lowering our carbon emissions from logistics processes and attaining our ultimate goal of transition to a zero-emission vehicle fleet in the long run.”

In 2022, Alliance committed to the Science Based Targets to reduce its absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 30% by 2030 from the base-year. Boosting the adoption of E-truck in the coming years will be a key step to achieve its climate protection ambition.
