Alliance Advances Low-Carbon Transport Revolution with Adoption of Renewable Diesel R33
Alliance proudly announces its position as the first fleet in Hong Kong to adopt Shell’s Renewable Diesel R33 — a major step forward in its commitment to low-carbon transportation and a cleaner future. This advanced fuel contains up to 33% renewable content, complies with the EN590 standard, and can reduce CO₂e emissions by up to 30%.
Since 2016, Alliance has consistently demonstrated its dedication to cleaner fuel alternatives by using B5 biodiesel from Shell stations. The new Renewable Diesel R33, a high-quality Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), is produced entirely from renewable bio-components such as corn, sugar, vegetable oils, and waste feedstocks through hydrogenation. Compared to conventional EN590 B0 diesel, HVO can reduce CO₂e emissions by up to 90% on a life cycle basis.
One of the key advantages of Renewable Diesel R33 is its seamless compatibility with existing diesel engines. It requires no engine modifications or additional equipment, making it a practical and cost-effective solution for reducing emissions. For Alliance, this transition represents a timely and strategic move toward achieving its carbon reduction goals, while also serving as an interim solution on the path to net zero transportation.
In its ongoing pursuit of cleaner transport solutions, Alliance broke new ground in 2023 by rolling out Hong Kong’s first electric mixer truck for a one-year pilot. The trial not only showcased the potential of electric heavy-duty vehicles but also paved the way for further innovation. The Company has also adopted electric vans for onsite concrete testing and technical support, and recently launched a hybrid power mixer truck featuring an electric-powered drum and diesel-powered truck body—a smart combination of efficiency and practicality.
Looking ahead, Alliance will continue driving progress through innovation and partnerships, shaping a cleaner future for Hong Kong and beyond.
